MEXIA, TX — Reports of a shooting at 2:10 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Hunt Street in Mexia on Thursday brought multiple law enforcement agencies to the quiet, residential street..
Police arrived to find two victims. At least one had a gunshot wound, according to Mexia Chief of Police Brian Bell.
Bell said the shooting started with an argument, but the reason for the argument remains under investigation.
The crime scene kept widening throughout the afternoon, as investigators found more evidence within a half block radius from the home where the shooting took place.
Witmesses said one man took off running after getting shot, leaving a trail of blood down the street and across a couple of yards.
The shooting rattled neighbors, some of whom had lived on the street 40 years or more, without any incident.
Paramedics took both victims to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest in Waco.
Groesbeck Police, Texas Highway Patrol, Texas Rangers and Limestone County Sheriff's Office all assisted on the scene.
No deputies or officers were injured, according to a statement by Limestone County Sheriff's Office.
