COPPERAS COVE, TX — The tornado that hit Big Divide near Copperas Cove caused nearly $2.7 million in damages, according to a report released by the Building Officials Association of Texas Diasaster (BOAT) Reponse Team.

On June 17, representatives assessed damage to properties located within the area near Big Divide where an EF-02 Tornado struck on Sunday June 9, 2019 at 5:28 p.m.

Previously, officials said nearly 200 homes were damaged by the tornado. No injuries were reported.

The BOAT team found that homes affected by the storms are located in Coryell and Lampasas County. All are within the Copperas Cove city limits.

The total amount in damages was estimated to be around $2,680,875, according to officials.

In Coryell County, damages amounted to $2,459,206.26, and in Lampasas County, $221,228.75.

The findings could change if more information is received from property and homeowners. These numbers are only an estimate of the damages.

Any information that a property or homeowner gets from their insurance company will still trump the preliminary findings by BOAT, said officials.

The assessment findings are also not a promise or guarantee of reimbursement funding that will be made available.

These findings will be reported to the State of Texas for the purpose of having a record of the local damages and will be included in the statewide disaster damage numbers.
