WACO, TX — As TxDOT maintenance crews monitor the cold front weather, pre-treatment, or brine solution, has been applied to I-35 as it runs through Waco and problem areas in Hamilton, Coryell, and Bell counties.

The brine solution will help prevent ice from forming on roadways, as precipitation falls on to the road’s surface.

In a statement today, the Waco-section of the Texas Department of Transportation shared the following tips
for the traveling public as the cold front winter weather approaches:

• If you can, avoid unnecessary travel
• If you have to travel:
o Buckle up
o Reduce your speeds; allow yourself more time to reach your destination
o Increase your following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you
o Be extra cautious on bridges, overpasses, ramps, turns and shaded areas that usually freeze first.
o Do not use lane control or lane assist
o Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles
