LUBBOCK, TX — The City of Lubbock has hired Temple Chief of Police Floyd Mitchell to lead the Lubbock Police Department, according to a press release on the city's website.
Chief Mitchell had to pass what officials call "a rigorous recruitment process that saw 43 applicants vie for the position". They say the process included both video and in-person interviews, and a public gathering where more than 100 community representatives were present.

Lubbock City Manager Jarrett Atkinson said, "We are greatly honored to bring Chief Mitchell to Lubbock. His experience, his sincere desire to be in Lubbock and the opportunity to incorporate his community policing skills into our city played strongly into his selection."
