Portion of Highway 6 to be blocked off for hours after crash involving patrol unit

RIESEL, TX — Officials are responding to an accident involving a state trooper.

They said that the trooper was out of his vehicle when his patrol unit was hit by another vehicle on Highway 6.

The trooper was stopped with his lights on and was responding to another crash when it happened.

The trooper was not injured in the accident. The accident happened in the southbound lane.

The Dodge Charger had 4 people in the vehicle when it hit the trooper's car. They were all brought to the hospital, but they are expected to be okay. There was one woman and three children under 18 in the vehicle. DPS does not believe that alcohol or texting was a factor in the crash.

Traffic is backing up in the area. The area is expected to be shutdown for another two hours.
