MARLIN, TX — The City of Marlin held an emergency city council meeting Monday morning to name an interim police chief.

This comes after Marlin Police Chief Nathan Sodek died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday while being served with an arrest warrant.

City Manager Cedric Davis, Sr. will serve as police chief until a replacement is hired.

When Davis heard what had happened Friday, he said knew he would most likely be given a call to take the position in the interim. He also said this task is part of his contract as City Manager.

"What I want to tell everybody, you know, we don't know what really happened, only our former police chief and God knows, so please don't judge. Lets become a community and unify and go forward. We can't hover over the past so we're looking going forward and improving what we bring to the citizens of Marlin and Falls County" said Davis.

Davis said the position will be available for candidates to apply by Friday and that with 30 years experience, he sees no hurdle with this new challenge.

Davis said he knows many good candidates who he will be giving a call.
