WOODWAY, TX — Central Texas seniors received some well-deserved recognition on Wednesday and were awarded nearly $57,000 in scholarships.

Sixteen high school seniors participated in the Waco Chamber's LEAD program and were mentored by community members in their industry.

This is the13th year of the program that sets up the next generation of progress for the community.

"Our younger generation is our future workforce. So obviously as the chamber, economic development is a huge focus of ours," said Rachel Martinez, Director of Leadership Development at the Waco Chamber of Commerce. "The next generation is economic development in our community. So we want our kids to find jobs in our community and build their lives here."

High School students who would like to be a part of the program can visit their local counselor for details.
