Increased police presence at Mexia High School after threat; suspect identified as student

MEXIA, TX — Mexia ISD says they have identified a suspect in today's school threat.

"This morning Mexia PD, with the assistance of the FBI and Texas DPS, identified a suspect in today's school threat. This crime will not be tolerated by our community and MISD will prosecute all criminal actions to the fullest extent of the law," the district said in a post.

A Mexia ISD student has been detained by the Mexia Police Department, pending further investigation.

"The threat has been resolved. The City of Mexia, the Mexia Police Department, and the Mexia Independent School District continue to make student safety the top priority and this rapid resolution is an example of the professionalism and dedication of all stakeholders," said City Manager of Mexia Eric Garretty.

Mexia ISD said there would be an increased police presence on Tuesday due to a threat.

They said they the threat was made against the high school Tuesday morning.
