WACO, Texas (KXXV) — U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) announces that elements of the following units have been activated to bolster security at the United States' southern border. Fort Bliss and Fort Cavazos are two U.S. Army posts in Texas that will deploy troops.

"U.S. Northern Command is aggressively bolstering security at the southern border," said Gen. Gregory M. Guillot, Commander, U.S. Northern Command. "For initial actions, soldiers and Marines are immediately deployed to integrate seamlessly with forces already along the border and work with the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection."

Approximately 1,500 active-duty U.S. Army and Marine Corps personnel are being deployed to the southern border to support the roughly 2,500 service members already assisting Customs and Border Protection's mission.

U.S. Northern Command, relevant Department of Defense combatant commanders, military departments, and the National Guard Bureau coordinate with the Department of Homeland Security and CBP to enhance border security efforts.
