Former Robinson ISD staff member arrested for alleged improper relationship with student

ROBINSON, Texas (KXXV) — "We believe this started about a year ago. It appears the teacher started grooming the child into this relationship,” Robinson Assistant Chief of Police Larry Adams said.

Robinson ISD sent a letter to parents explaining a staff member was arrested for having an alleged improper relationship with a student.

“Although this student was an adult-aged student, the penal code still prohibits a relationship between an educator and student, and that's why we went forward with this case,” Adams said.

The student’s family contacted the Robinson Police Department on January 21.

“They reported to us that they had found text messages and noticed abnormal behavior from the student,” Adams said.

Officers immediately launched an investigation while notifying the school administration—shortly after the staff member was fired.

Robinson Police Department’s press release states, “A forensic analysis of these devices revealed sexually explicit text messages and photographs exchanged between the staff member, identified as 42-year-old Christopher Gonzales, and the student.”

Police obtained search warrants for both the staff member and the student.

“We determined that the teacher had deleted pertinent information about this case. Once he learned it was under investigation,” Adams said. “He instructed the student to do the same. However, this information was still recovered during our forensic analysis.”

Tampering with evidence is a third-degree felony in Texas. An improper relationship between an educator and a student is a second-degree felony.

“Where are you now with this case,” 25 News’ Kadence MaKenna asked.

“So, at this point, we're still analyzing the data from the electronic devices. We're looking for potential other victims,” Adams said. “We're looking to see if there were any other involved parties that we may pursue.”
