KILLEEN, TX — Frigid temperatures and sleet left the potential for icy conditions Monday.

TxDOT carefully monitored the road conditions during the biting November night.

“As the weather comes in, we’re going to monitor the roadway surfaces, particularly the bridges and overpasses where the wind will blow over and under. And if we get some rain and the surface gets wet, it could freeze,” said Ken Roberts, spokesperson for TxDOT.

They said they were prepared to respond to any changes in the conditions.

As the winter weather season begins, it served as a good reminder for drivers take precautions.

“Don’t stand on the brakes, no sudden jerks on the steering wheel. Make sure you stay safe. Keep a little more space between the vehicle in front of you,” said Matt Bonnell, a professional driver from Fort Hood.

“And keep your foot off the accelerator, if you have to go through a light, hope nobody coming,” said Loretta Battle, a driver visiting from Nashville.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Burnet and San Saba Counties through early Tuesday morning.
