GROESBECK, TX — The Groesbeck Police Department says they responded to a false 9-1-1 call about a robbery that was made by a child.

Police say they were dispatched to Ruby's Food Mart in the 600 block of North Ellis Street in reference to a reported robbery in progress.

An officer arrived on scene within 30 seconds of being dispatched and initiated an investigation.

It was determined a robbery did not take place and the 9-1-1 call was made by a child on a disconnected cell phone.

Police want to remind citizens that cell phones without service are still capable of calling 9-1-1 and should be monitored if given to children.

"We'd like to thank the Texas Highway Patrol, Texas Game Warden, and the Limestone County Sheriff's Office patrol and communications officers for their assistance with this call."
