COPPERAS COVE, TX — Copperas Cove has released its plan for the return to school in the fall.

In accordance with TEA guidelines, parents will have the option to select in-person or remote learning for their child.

In-person learning includes:

  • Available for students in Prekindergarten through Grade 12
  • Student participation required 5 full days per week
  • Implementation of preventive safety measures
  • Instruction provided by Copperas Cove ISD teachers
  • Instruction in core content and elective areas
  • District curriculum, unit sequencing and pacing of instruction
  • Social-emotional support
  • Accommodations and support services provided

A student or staff who is showing symptoms of COVID-19 will be evaluated by the school nurse. If symptoms are present, the staff member will be sent home. The student will be isolated and required to wear a mask until a parent arrives. The student must be picked up within one hour of notification.

The nurse will then provide the staff member or parent with criteria for the return to school.

Additional sanitation practices will be implemented in all areas of the kitchen and serving area. Self-serve counters have been eliminated in exchange for traditional serving lines. There will be grab-and-go meals for breakfast.

As for lunch, a full menu will not be available. However, several options will remain. Single-use products will be used.

The district said it will enforce social distancing in the cafeteria where possible. Some students may eat in classrooms.

Regarding transportation, the district is encouraging parent drop-off, walking or riding a bike to school. However, ridership will remain at typical district capacity.

Driver and riders will be required to wear face coverings. All buses will have hand sanitizer dispensers for use when loading and unloading. Students will be assigned seats, and a seating chart will be maintained by the bus driver.

Remote learning includes:

  • Available for students in Prekindergarten through Grade 12
  • Student participation required 5 full days per week
  • Video-based teacher-led instruction and learning
  • Instruction and/or instructional support provided by Copperas Cove ISD teachers
  • Instruction in core content and elective areas
  • District aligned curriculum, unit sequencing and pacing of instruction
  • Social-emotional support
  • Accommodations and support services provided
  • Internet connection required
  • District computer device provided, if needed
  • Access to specialized courses and extra-curricular activities on-campus, as applicable

The district will send survey for parents to indicate their intended mode of learning. The survey will be released on July 15 and will be due back on July 22.

Parents will be required to commit to a mode of learning beginning on August 3. The commitment form will be due on August 6.

CCISD said the first day of school is expected to take place on August 18.
