COLLEGE STATION, TX — The City of College Station is was just named the best city in Texas to live in for people on a fixed income, according to Go BankingRates.

"It's a great place to call home, and we're very thankful for it. We've been here since 1995. I would say we've settled our roots here," said long-time College Station resident Darla Wootan.

Darla met her husband in College Station and raised her kids here. She has even opened four different businesses in town including, one as a realtor.

"It's just a win. Every aspect of the community is just a positive for us. it is an affordable place, and it's a nice place to come and live and lay down your roots and retire," said Wootan.

Go BankingRates credits College Station's relatively low housing costs, as well as Texas being one of the states that doesn't have a state income tax, for its popularity.

Darla said she loves the small town feel of College Station. She also said the school system was great for her kids, and of course there's no better place to live for Aggie fans.

"We can go to a football game, and we can just come home. We don't have to travel," she said.

Her 2 kids are currently students at Texas A&M, and she said she does plan to one day retire in College Station.
