WACO, TX — First responders are working tirelessly on the frontlines to treat patients with COVID-19.
Bush's Chicken is stepping up to help a group of often overlooked overnight medical staff.
On Thursday night, restaurant employees rolled in dozens of boxes at Ascension Providence and Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center.
"Right now, in this time of difficulty and challenge everyday we simply want to do the best thing that we do everyday -- we feed our community and help our community," said Bush's Chicken manager Annette Elliot.
She said they took to social media to ask the community where the biggest need was for hospital workers.
The response was overwhelming.
"We kept seeing overnight staff and shifts were not getting meals like our day shift and different clinics," Elliot said.
Nearly 300 meals were donated between both hospitals, and the menu was delicious!
"Four tenders, mash potatoes and gravy, roll and a side of gravy, as well," Elliot said.
"It's just such a blessing to have Bush's bring dinner to our staff tonight. The nurses are able to stay up on their units with their patients without having to worry about going downstairs and having dinner brought to them," Krista Balchunas said.
Bush's Chicken employees said a warm meal is a simple way to give back for those often overlooked.
