BELTON, TX — What was supposed to be a joyful Good Friday, turned out to be an unfortunate start to the Easter weekend for one family.
Their mobile home in Belton has been ruled a total loss after a fire on Friday.
According to officials, the call came in just before 4 p.m. with reports of a structure fire in the 5000 block of Dogridge Road.
When officials arrived, the mobile home was engulfed in flames.
Hellen Chandler was home with her daughter and granddaughter at the time.
The 4-year-old grandchild spotted the fire first, and said the house was on fire.
"I got woke up saying that there was a fire. I went in the living room to see what was going on and sure enough there was a fire. I tried to put it out and I couldn't, so I hollered out the door. My sister was outside in the yard and I hollered at the door to tell her to call 911 and she did. And my daughter and her baby were in the house. And they got out through a back door that was securely, she basically had to kick the door in," said Chandler.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. A thin base of the home and a tin roof were the only things left.
Chandler was treated for smoke inhalation and officials said the home was a total loss.
"To clean up the land because it has to be cleaned up now and to move another trailer in here... It's going to be $7,500. We have $820," said Chandler.
In an effort to help them get back on their feet, a family member has created a GoFundMe Page.
The family also has a bank account set up with First National Bank and First Convenience Bank. The account is set up under donations and all you need is Hellen Chandler's name.
