BELL COUNTY, TX — The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers for their seasonal kettle campaign.

“It’s a fundraising tradition of ours that has been established many, many years ago,” said Lt. Chantel Millin, Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army, Bell County.

The sound of bells chiming outside shops is a sure sign the holidays are here. However, the charitable organization is looking for more volunteers to man the kettles.

“We want to have volunteers for our kettle, because if we don’t have volunteers, we have to hire bell ringers. Because at the end of the day, it is better to have a person at the kettle than an empty kettle,” said Millin.

Still, it comes at a cost. Millin says that it rings up to $100 per day, per location to hire outside help. In Bell county, there are 30 locations.

“It immediately takes away from the monies that would help services,” said Millin.
