Arrest made in Killeen Hit-And-Run

KILLEEN, TX — Killeen police have a man in custody for a deadly hit-and-run just a few days before Christmas.

It happened December 21st in the one-thousand block of Jasper road.

Officers arrived to find 53 year old Michael Dean Cook lying in the road.

Paramedics took him to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Investigators had begun looking for an SUV in the case and later pinned it down to a pewter or lighter colored 2000-2006 Chevy Tahoe with damage to the front headlight.

Tips from crimestoppers led officers to the vehicle at a Killeen home last week.

Friday, the Bell County District Attorney charged 30-year-old Michael David Olivas with an "accident causing death".

Justice of the peace Bill Cooke Set bond at half a million dollars and Olivas turned himself in, to authorities late Saturday.

Officers then booked him into the Bell County Jail.
