ABC's 20/20 revealed new details in the case of Spc. Vanessa Guillen during a two-hour special. 25 News assisted in the report, and anchor Lindsay Liepman talked with 20/20 about the new revelations.
"Do you feel like when you sat down with the Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy that he was being transparent with his answers?" asked Liepman.
"Yes, I do. I do," replied ABC News anchor John Quiñones. "He seemed incredibly honest and disturbed by what happened. That's why we went all the way to The Pentagon. And the question was very simple. How could all this alleged harassment, these deaths, these disappearances, happen in the place where these soldiers are supposed to feel the safest within the gates of a U.S. military installation?"
"What for you is the magnitude and importance of your report?" asked Liepman.
"It's one of the most important stories I think given what's happening at that base. Because it's bigger than just what happened to Vanessa Guillen. And what's particularly touching is it's the story of one family's persistence. The Guillen's," said Quiñones.
He continued, "Their dogged determination to find answers. The tragic thing is the main suspect winds up killing himself, so the Guillen family will never know why their daughter was killed. Robinson will never go to trial. I asked the Secretary tonight and you'll see it on 20/20, will there ever be justice for Vanessa Guillen. His answer was, "I just don't know.""
