BRYAN, TX — With the deadline quickly approaching many last-minute voter registration drives will be held in the Brazos Valley area.
”I would say probably the biggest concern right now is the mail-in ballot there is a delay right now from the elections office to get those ballots out,” said Wanda J Watson, Democratic Party Chair
The most important aspect of registering to vote is the information you provide and make sure everything is up to date.
”Being able to instruct people to be sure that their voter registration application matches their ID,” said Watson.
One myth many may have is being turned away due to an expired driver's license.
”If they have an expired driver's license, they still can vote if they have a passport everything has to have picture in it so you have to have a photo,” said Ebony Peterson, Local Voter Registration Drive Organizer.
Be sure to stay up to date with the status of your registration.
”I have had people ask me well I don’t know if I am registered, I will tell them hey, let me just go ahead and fill it out for you again. If you don’t want to do the paperwork you can always go to the votetexas.gov to check your status if you’re registered to vote," said Peterson.
Elections Administrator Trudy Hancock eases the minds of her community by providing guidance during this time.
"COVID was in full force in July when we had the runoff and we did not have any issues we had some very good protocols in place,” said Trudy Hancock, Elections Administrator.
On national voter registration day, the Texas Secretary of the state “encouraged eligible Texans to get out and shape the future of the lone star state”.
If you have sent an application to receive a mail-in Ballot and decide you would like to vote in person be sure to bring in your ballot in order to assure your vote is counted.
