WACO, TX — For the October 10 edition of Central Texas Living Ann Harder spoke with Jo Anne Beaty, author of "The Goat Woman."

For more that 35 years, Beaty was a teacher in a variety of settings, mostly elementary classroom. She says one of her favorite things to do was to read books to her students and encourage them to write their stories.

"The Goat Woman" had its beginnings in her childhood, when she and her friends told stories at slumber parties about the goat woman who lived out on a South Arkansas highway. Through the fictitious characters, Beaty hopes to help children understand that their fear of the unknown is often misplaced, and everyone should strive to explore and learn more about others.
