UPDATE
HOUSTON, Texas — The suspected shooter wanted in connection with wounding four officers outside Houston has been taken into custody after a dramatic, hourslong standoff.
Terran Green, 34, barricaded himself inside a home in the 11500 block of Silhouette Ridge in northeast Harris County.
The standoff came to a conclusion late Thursday with Green clutching the mechanized battering ram used by officers to gain entry into the home.
Multiple law enforcement agencies used drones, mechanized heavy equipment, tear gas and smoke grenades to try and lure Green out of the home.
But hours after he opened fire on three more law enforcement officers on Thursday, Green came out of a second story hole created by the battering ram with both arms raised in surrender.
A statewide manhunt sent alerts to many Texans after police say Green shot a Harris County sheriff's deputy twice in the chest during a traffic stop in Wednesday evening.
Two U.S. Marshals and a deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Office received information on Thursday the suspect was hiding out in the home, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said during a press conference.
Police said that's when the officers approached the home and were told by a woman with two children living there that Green was in fact inside.
Shortly after the woman and children left the home, Green opened fire on the officers, shooting one marshal in the leg and the deputy twice in the chest, according to officials.
The sheriff's deputy was wearing body armor, which absorbed the bullets and saved the officer from serious injury, police said, while the second marshal was wounded from a ricochet round striking their arm.
Sheriff Gonzalez said his deputy, identified as 29-year-old Joseph Anderson, is making progress in his recovery, after undergoing surgery.
The rookie officer has only been on the job for 15 months, officials said.
Both officers who were shot Thursday are in good condition at area hospitals, Gonzalez said.
Authorities said Green was out on bond for a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at the time of the traffic stop.
In a Blue Alert issued Wednesday night, authorities said two suspects were wanted for the shooting. However, police said Green's older brother was not being charged with a crime after briefly being taken into custody on Thursday.
