HOUSTON, TX — Texas Southern University offered a full scholarship to Gianna Floyd, the daughter of George Floyd on Tuesday in social media post.
The university is located just minutes away from Yates High School in Houston, where George Floyd graduated from high school after growing up in the town's Third Ward. Floyd died in May in Minneapolis after an encounter with the local police department, sparking a national outcry against police brutality.
Gianna Floyd came into the public eye after she was seen in a video posted by Floyd's longtime friend and former NBA player Stephen Jackson saying "my daddy changed the world."
The fund for Gianna's scholarship was approved by the TSU Board of Regents along with the TSU Foundation Board. The announcement was made on the same day as Floyd's funeral in Houston.
