Information from Texas driver licenses was left in an unsecured storage service and possibly accessed without authorization, according to an insurance risk management firm.
Vertafore says the issue was discovered in mid-August and happened sometime between March 11 and August 1. Due to human error, the information was moved to an unsecured external storage service and appears to have been accessed without authorization.
The information is from licenses issued before February 2019 and includes driver license numbers, names, dates of birth, addresses and vehicle registration histories.
Vertafore says the storage did not contain Social Security numbers or financial account information.
Information misuse has not been identified at this time.
The firm has reported the issue to the Texas Attorney General, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and U.S. federal law enforcement.
