AUSTIN, TX — A proposal that would put the Austin Police Department under the state's control has been drafted "just in time for Christmas," according to Governor Greg Abbott.
The governor tweeted Monday that the Legislative Council has drafted language for a proposed law that would allow the Texas Department of Public Safety to assume control of APD.
Just in time for Christmas:
The Legislative Council has sent draft language for a proposed law that would transfer control of the Austin Police Department to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
One way or another we will pass a law to keep Austin safe.

In September, Abbott said he would consider the law after Austin city officials voted to cut the police department's budget.
