McDonald’s will be giving out a free breakfast to third through eighth grade students taking the STAAR test.

On April 9, participating McDonald’s statewide will offer breakfast from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The free breakfast includes a choice of Egg White Delight McMuffin, fruit and maple oatmeal. Students will also pick between 1 percent low fat milk or apple juice. The meal comes with a side of apple slices.

This free breakfast event will extend to teachers of students third through eighth grade with a valid school ID.

This offer is for dine-in only, limit one per person. Students must be present and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

April 9 will be an important day for thousands of children around the state as STAAR testing gets underway. Teachers and students have spent months preparing for the testing, which runs from Tuesday through Thursday.

Launched in 2012, the test emphasizes "readiness" standards, which are knowledge and skills that are considered most important for success by the state.
