Historic hotel in Dallas destroyed by fire

DALLAS, TX — A historic hotel in Dallas was destroyed by a massive fire overnight.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said a 4-alarm fire broke out at the Old Ambassador Hotel in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Ambassador Hotel near downtown Dallas was the oldest remaining luxury hotel in the city. It was constructed in 1904 and later renovated in 1932.

Over it's 115 years standing, the hotel has received several designations from the city and the state. In 1965 the hotel became a recorded Texas Historic Landmark and a State Historic Marker and almost 20 years later in 1982, the hotel was deemed a Dallas Landmark.

Over 100 firefighters responded to put out the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

According to NBCDFW, the building was being transformed into apartments with shops, restaurants a swimming pool and a speakeasy bar.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
