The CEO of Texas-based grocery chain, H-E-B, recently submitted a letter to the Texas Supreme Court advocating for mail-in voting on Wednesday.
In the letter, H-E-B's CEO expressed his support for Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins who is advocating to send mail-in voting applications to every registered voter in the county. The Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocked the plan.
"We’ve worked hard to give customers opportunities to buy their food in the safest way. In light of this, I also support efforts to allow voting by mail, which is the safest means for people to exercise this vital right during this time," Charles Butt wrote in the letter.
For Texas residents who'd like to request a mail-in ballot, they must meet one of four qualifications, be older than 65 years of age, be disabled, out of their county of residence on election day or be in jail.
Mail-in ballots must be received by October 23, 2020 for the November elections.
