WACO, TX — The first-ever Foster Festivus is going on now and promotes togetherness over gifts, and why not be together with a foster pet. The goal is to get every animal in a foster home for the holidays.

With more staff out during the holiday season, these animals don't get the attention they are used to getting in the shelter.

You can foster a pet during Foster Festivus goes on from December 1st to December 23rd.

If the pet is not adopted, or you cannot keep them any longer you can bring the foster pet back on January 4th or later.

The goal of the program is to get every pet in a foster home.

Being in a foster home also helps learn how these animals will be in a home once adopted.

"Being in a home is a totally different environment for them and we get to learn more about them. And that's part of the really great thing about our foster program, is that that are in home with people, those people can report back to us and say this dog loves playing with toys, this dog doesn't like going for walks. We can learn so much about them and it helps us get them into adopted homes." Said Paula Rivaneira, the Executive Director at the Humane Society of Central Texas.

Each person who fosters a pet will receive a t-shirt, some pet food, and have the opportunity to borrow a kennel.

The Humane Society is also available to help with any issues that may come up.
