A major artery in Houston is shut down in both direction after barges hit a bridge.
It happened Thursday night on the portion of I-10 that crosses the San Jacinto River.
Barges hit the I-10 bridge on Thursday, shutting down the highway in both directions.
Multiple barges are involved. Officials say one of them may have combustible liquid inside.
High water from the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda have made it possible for authorities to inspect the bridge.
There is no estimate on when it may open again.
Early reports from the coast guard indicated nine barges broke free from a shipyard.
But that shipyard says it's downstream of the bridge, and the barges did not come from its property.
The bridge was also hit by a barge in February.
That accident reduced traffic to two lanes and cost more than $800,000 to fix.
