3.4 magnitude earthquake rattles west Texas

WEST TEXAS — The United States Geological Survey is reporting a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck west Texas early Tuesday morning.

The earthquake was recorded at 5:16 a.m. CST.

According to the USGS, the earthquake struck 31.3 miles northwest of Toyah, Texas and 55.4 miles south of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Last Tuesday, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded 85 miles southwest of West Odessa and 9.2 miles east northeast of Balmoreah, Texas.

According to Earthquake Track, there have been 156 earthquakes in Texas this past year, with 106 of those reported in the West Texas region.
