LAMPASAS, TX — On Wednesday, September 9 2020 at approximately 12:01 am Lampasas Police Department Sgt. Fidel Morua engaged in a pursuit of a dark-colored sport type vehicle in the 900 block of N. Key Avenue in Lampasas.
The vehicle was southbound on Key Avenue (South 183) at high rates of speed, disregarding traffic control devices, Sgt. Morua pursued the vehicle in an attempt to stop it.
The pursuit traveled at high rates of speed, with Sgt. Morua unable to gap the distance between his patrol unit and the vehicle to at least obtain license plate information.
The pursuit traveled from Lampasas to the intersection of S Hwy 183 and FM 970, where Sgt. Morua could no longer see the vehicle, he followed protocol and terminated the pursuit.
Later, the Lampasas Police Department was advised of a tragic double fatality crash that occurred at 183 and 183A in Leander, Texas.
A vehicle similar in description to that which Sgt. Morua had pursued was involved in a crash with a motorcycle.
Lt. Charles Montgomery is conducting further investigation with Leander Police to determine if the vehicle is the same vehicle that evaded Sgt. Morua.
