MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX — A trial date has been set for a man charged for capital murder in connection with the deaths of a woman and their infant child.
During Friday's hearing, Christopher Weiss' trial was set for Aug. 24.
On Nov. 7, 2017, the McLennan County Sheriff's Office arrested Weiss around in Temple for a double murder.
Weiss is accused of shooting and killing Valarie Martinez and their 1-year-old child at the Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir, according to police.
The affidavit said the two were shot in the head, and the child was still strapped in her car seat. The woman was found a few feet away from the car.
"The little child was killed while still strapped in her car seat," said McLennan County Parnell McNamara at the time. "Just a very sad, very brutal, cold-blooded murder."
Deputies gathered enough information to issue a capital murder warrant for his arrest.
On Jan. 31, 2018, Weiss was indicted for the capital murder of Martinez and her 1-year-old daughter. Weiss was the father of the the 1-year-old killed.
Back in 2018, Weiss admitted to authorities that he was in a romantic relationship with the victim, Valarie Martinez, until Oct. 30, according to an arrest affidavit.
The McLennan County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Bell County Constable and Temple Police Department in the arrest of Weiss.
"We are so glad to get this creep off the streets," Sheriff Parnell McNamara said after his arrest.
