WACO, TX — Waco is seeing a surge of 40,000 new COVID tests - and it comes at an important time, as flu season has just begun.
Willie Moore and his friends value good music as much as they value good health. That's why they stay on top of both and urge their friends to get tested as often as they can.
"It's important to take the test, because of coronavirus. You know a lot of people don't know the symptoms. They don't know they got the symptoms - they don't know they got a coronavirus," said Moore.
Doctors say symptoms start off feeling a lot like the flu, and since flu season has just begun, they don't want us getting both.
That's why they say the Waco testing surge couldn't come at a better time.
The COVID testing that will roll out across Waco will put 40,000 more tests on Central Texas streets at a key and possibly dangerous time of year. And as doctors told us last flu season, good cleanliness helps prevent both.
"They're both similar viruses, and if you're doing whatever you can to protect from one virus, you're protecting yourself from all the viruses," said Dr. Kenneth Lomenzo, Limestone Family Medicine Center last February, just before the pandemic became a worldwide emergency.
So Waco's free testing comes at a good time.
But some who got the early tests call them "uncomfortable".
"Don't want to go through it. So what if we told him the new test that they're doing just goes in your nose doesn't go up your nose it just goes in a little bit? "Just a lot more comfortable and it's not nearly as bad as the other? I would love to check it every time," said Moore.
