WACO, TX — Waco's second oldest cemetery is getting an upgrade.
The Greenwood Cemetery is slated to get new ornamental iron fencing and gates throughout the property.
The process began with a laser scan of the property, which benefits groups like the Waco-McLennan County Cemetery Interest Group.
The group is trying to document who is at the cemetery and where. The scan offers them a great starting point.
"While we have no records of who is buried where because of the complex ownership, and many of those documents are just unfortunately lost to history. What this sets us up for, this survey, allows somebody to go through in a systematic way and read what's on each headstone and associate back with the map," said Tom Balk, Senior Park Planner for the City of Waco.
Construction of the fence is set to begin in March and should be concluded by the end of June.
