WACO, TX — Two people have been arrested after a crash and shooting lead to police searching the Cameron Park Zoo on Tuesday night.
A Cameron Park Zoo spokesperson said police were searching the area due to an incident that happened a couple of blocks away from the zoo. Police said they were first alerted of the situation from a report of a crash with injuries at Fourth Street and Garland Avenue. Dispatchers were told someone involved in the crash reported shots were being fired at the scene.
When police arrived at the scene they learned two men were involved in the shooting and both of them had run from the scene. There were three vehicles involved in the crash. Police said the two suspects were chasing each other when the crash happened involving another non-involved vehicle.
The spokesperson for the zoo said police believed the suspect, who was possibly armed, may have entered the zoo. Witnesses say they saw a man run into the zoo by the fence north on Fourth Street.
A K-9 unit and other officers went inside the zoo to search for the suspect. The area was cleared later in the evening.
The two men were later arrested. Police identified one of the suspects as 32-year-old Harry Andrew Casiano Jr., who was found with a pistol. Police said Casiano resisted arrested and was tased. He was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon, resisting arrest and traffic warrants.
Police believe the two suspects were involved in a previous shooting on June 11 in the area of 15th Street and Maple Avenue.
