17-year-old arrested for allegedly shooting, killing step-father following domestic disturbance

WACO, TX — A 17-year-old has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a 30-year-old man following a domestic disturbance.

The name of the victim has been identified as Sylvester Dixon from Waco.

Dixon is also the reported step-father of the arrested suspect in this case.

Around 4:58 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, officers were called out to North 16th Street and Providence Driver regarding a shooting.

When the first officer arrived, they found a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The officer called for medical personnel to respond.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

While other officers were responding, they learned the description of the suspect and were able to apprehend him based on that description.

After he was taken into custody, the suspect was interviewed by investigators and then transported to the McLennan County Jail.

The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Judarius Degrate, has been charged with murder.

During the interviews with Degrate, officers learned the shooting stemmed from a domestic disturbance that started in a home in the 1600 block of North 16th Street. The disturbance is believed to be an isolated incident.

Waco Police say the investigation is ongoing.
