WACO, TX — The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District has issued a public health alert ahead of Thanksgiving.

The health district is encouraging the community to modify celebrations in order to protect themselves and others against COVID-19.

The alert starts by stating the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving this year is to limit the celebration to people in your immediate household. Gatherings of any size with people outside of your home is a high-risk activity.

The health district is encouraging people to consider the health and age of the people they may be visiting.

The alert goes on to encourage the community to assess the risk of traveling. This means consider the location and how prevalent COVID-19 is there. The health district says travel is not recommended at this time.

The health district recommends people hold a virtual Thanksgiving gathering in order to include people who would otherwise have to travel.
