WACO, TX — Waco police say they arrested a man after he chased a young woman’s car, rammed it, then hit her with his car as she tried to run away. Police said he proceeded to kidnap her and then drive away.

Waco Police spokesman Garen Bynum said they responded to an incident on Sunday morning at about 10:30 a.m. at the 2800 block of Ghloson Road for what they thought was a hit and run traffic crash.

Officers learned from the victim of the hit and run that 2 other vehicles were involved and 1 appeared to have been chasing the other.

Through their investigation, officers determined that a female driving a white Ford Crown Victoria was being chased by a male driving a 2016 Chrysler 200.

Officers were then able to locate the female being chased and learned that the male chasing her was Derontae Simmons, and in the 2800 blk of Gholson Rd while chasing the female victim, he rammed her car.

The female then got out of her car and attempted to flee the area from Simmons.

Simmons chased her down while still in his vehicle and struck her.

Simmons then picked the female victim up and threw her in his car before fleeing the scene.

While still in the area, Simmons and his vehicle were located by Bellmead Police Department.

They notified Waco officers of the stop they had made.

Waco officers were able to interview the female victim and were able to get her medical treatment from AMR, who transported her to a local hospital.

After the initial investigation on-scene, Simmons was arrested and charged with Aggravated Kidnapping and Deadly Conduct.

The female victim suffered serious injuries during the incident.

Police say she is 18-years-old.

Simmons' bond was set at $102,500.

This investigation is still ongoing.
