WACO, TX — Tennyson Middle School was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after reports of a student with a gun, according to Principal Matthew Rambo. The student is being charged with deadly conduct.
The school was on lockdown for about 20 minutes while police investigated, said Rambo.
Police did find a BB gun in a student's locker and identified the student who brought the gun to the campus.
The student was taken into custody by law enforcement, and the campus was placed on a "short hold" during that time.
The campus then resumed its normal schedule at around 10 a.m.
"The student will face criminal charges," said Principal Rambo. "The school will also undertake a separate disciplinary process."
The principal says privacy laws prevent them from sharing additional information about the campus' disciplinary process. But he wants parents to know they are taking the matter very seriously.
Principal Rambo also expressed his gratitude to the Waco ISD Police Department for their "quick and effective response."
The following message was sent to parents, as well as recorded message sent to phones.
