WACO, TX — In order to keep people healthy, local gym facilities are upping sanitation. Sharing is the name of the game if you work out at a community gym. From dumbbells to treadmills, it's all about taking turns with equipment.
"We use a lot of sanitizer. We are always mopping the floors, bathrooms and cleaning everything," said Kyle Williams, co-owner of Halo Athletic Center.
The Halo Athletic Center keeps sanitation products throughout the gym for people to clean after themselves.
"We always have a flu season. We always have days we need to be careful, but if you take some procedures you can clean it up," Williams said.
For one couple, they have a different perspective about the coronavirus spread.
"There are hundreds of contagious diseases that you can get everyday, so I don't understand the hysteria, but I do understand some older people may be at a higher risk," said Janet Skopik.
And with that comes a different mindset about heading to the gym for them.
"if we sat home being afraid of the virus, we are damaging our health more so by not going to the gym," she said.
Jane and her husband David are both diabetic and say working out is key for their health.
"There is a lot of people our age where working out is a necessary part of maintaining our health," said David.
The Skopiks say they refuse to neglect their health in any way.
"Eat well. Eat smart. Wash your hands. Take time doing the sanitation, and you will be alright, " said Williams.
The CDC released a list of products that help sanitize and clear bacteria.
