Hundreds without power due to crane fire at Hillcrest

WACO, TX — Officials responded to a crane on fire at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Waco fire said it happened on the 100 block of Hillcrest Medical Blvd.

An operator was in the basket of the cherry picker crane when the basket hit a power line. They believe the power line caused the fire.

Firefighters had to wait to put the fire since it was resting on the lines. Atmos Energy was called to the scene to turn the power off.

The fire was put out around 11 a.m.

As of 11:30 a.m., businesses and part of the hospital are still without power. Power outages at the hospital are not expected to interfere greatly with operations, according to officials.

Surprisingly, no injuries were reported, including the operator in the basket.

According to the Oncor power outage map at 11:15 a.m., there were over 300 without power.
