WACO, TX — The Waco City Council has denied the permit for a proposed immigrant facility in East Waco.

The proposal, which was submitted by Visonquest, aimed to hire 120 people to house and supervise 88 boys between the ages of 11 to 17 for 24-hours a day for up to three months under a contract with the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement.

Neighbors feared that turning an old nursing home into an immigration detention center for teenage boys could bring plenty of trouble.

The proposal was denied by the Waco Plan Commission last month, and would've needed a super-majority in order to have been approved.
