WACO, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation is advising drivers of upcoming changes to I-35.
Crews will shift traffic to the newly constructed lanes on the I-35 southbound frontage road from N Loop 340 to US 84 and open the sidewalks to pedestrians the week of Feb. 17.
When traffic is shifted, the southbound exit for Behrens Circle (Exit 338B) will close for several months. For access to Behrens Circle, drivers will need to use the southbound exit for N Loop 340 (Exit 339).
Crews will shift all southbound mainlane traffic from N Loop 340 to US 84 to the east side of the interstate in the spring. This is the last section of the interstate within the project limits that needs to be shifted and, once complete, will allow crews to reconstruct and expand all southbound mainlanes from N Loop 340 to 12th Street. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction, and this configuration is anticipated to be in place until mid-2021.
Once all mainlane traffic is shifted, crews will continue reconstructing I-35 by removing the southbound mainlanes that cross over US 84 and Behrens Circle. More information will be shared as this work is scheduled.
