CLIFTON, TX — A second school shooting threat reported by a student at Clifton High School this week turned out to be fabricated.
On Thursday, police said a female student was removed from campus following a reported threat made towards the school.
Following that incident, several parents raised concerns about another threat to "shoot up the school during the pep rally on Friday."
Police investigated the second threat and determined a student who claimed to have received text messages about the threat had made up the story.
There was no second threat or any messages sent related to a second threat, according to Clifton PD.
After thorough investigation, we were able to track this back to a single student who stated that he had received a text message from another male student stating the threat. Upon meeting with this student and his parents, the student was asked to show officers these messages. At this point, the student confessed that he had never received such messages and had fabricated the story. There was not a second threat, nor were there messages of a threat sent.
Clifton police and Clifton ISD say they will continue to take all threats seriously to protect students. They are also urging parents to speak with their children about the seriousness of making a threat, and the importance of reporting anything they hear or see.
"If you see something, say something," says Chief Hendricks.
