WACO, TX — Five veterans in Waco were honored by Congress for their service to the community Monday.

Edward Brown, Herb Casey, Jr., Dr. Larry Gee, Charles Howard and Jim Allmon all received the Congressional Veterans Commendation from Representative Bill Flores.

They were given a challenge coin and a certificate along with a flag that was flown over the Capital during Veteran's Day. Congressman Flores says this is one part of the job that makes it all worth it.

"Well I'm very humbled to be around people that have, again, been of such great service to our country and our communities. It makes you, when you see what these people do to make our lives better. It's just a remarkable feeling to be able to recognize them," said Rep. Flores.

The Congressional Veterans Commendation was created about a decade ago, and Representative Flores presents them to veterans in his district once a year.
Every recipient was nominated by the community that they serve.
