Lacy Lakeview Police responded to an attempted kidnapping at the Dollar General on Saturday, according to Chief of Police John Treuhitt.

Alkanha Thompson was medically cleared before being taken to the McLennan County Jail. She was charged with attempted kidnapping and injury to a child, both of which are state jail felonies.

Officers said they arrived to find Thompson being held down on the ground by the mother of a 4-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy. The mother said Thompson had attempted to kidnap her 4-year-old son.

An officer asked Thompson what she was doing in the vehicle and Thomspon said, "I saw that baby and I wanted it."

Thompson also told officers she had smoked K-2 about an hour before the incident.

The mother said she was sitting in the passenger seat of her car with her two sons in the backseat when Thompson opened the rear driver's side door. The mother said she first thought Thompson may have been confused and was trying to get into the wrong car.

The mother said Thompson then entered the car and attempted to grab both children and tried to take them out of the car.

Officers said a struggle took place between Thompson and the family, and that Thompson inflicted scratches on the mother and the boys.

The mother was able to fight Thompson off and force her to the ground by the time police arrived.

The mother and her two sons were medically cleared by a local hospital.
