WACO, TX — A man was arrested and charged after police said he burglarized a home and a vehicle Friday morning.
Police said around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a burglary of a habitation in progress in the 2100 block of Primrose Ave. Responding officers captured one suspect who attempted to flee on foot.
The victim told 011 that she heard footsteps and that someone was in her house. Officers arrived at the scene and met with the complaint in front of her house.
As officers were investigating, they heard a window break in the back of the residence.
Officers ran behind the home and initiated a foot pursuit with 29-year-old Derek Alvarado. Alvarado was caught and found to be in possession of several items from the burglarized home.
Further investigation revealed several bags of items were found outside of the home. Many of the items did not belong to the home Alvarado was captured fleeing from.
Those items included an ID, which belonged to the victim of the home. Officers went to that location and found that a vehicle located there had been burglarized.
Officers made contact with the resident and returned their ID that was taken to their vehicle.
Alvarado was charged with burglary of a habitation, burglary of a motor vehicle and evading arrest.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
