Officer, K-9 injured during pursuit of carjacking suspects

WACO, TX — Waco police said one person was arrested and two officers were injured after police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in west Waco. The vehicle had been carjacked Friday morning.

During the pursuit, officers and a K-9 were injured.

When police stopped the vehicle, the driver and passenger fled on foot. Police pursued the two suspects with the assistance of a K-9.

While officers were chasing the suspects, the K-9 officer was attacked by another dog. To protect the K-9, police said they had to shoot the attacking dog.

Police said they immediately transported the attacking dog to the vet. The attacking dog's condition is unknown right now, according to police.

The police K-9 was also injured during the pursuit and was taken to the vet and released.

Another officer was injured during the pursuit while jumping a fence.

The officer was taken to the hospital with a significant knee injury. Right now, his treatment is ongoing at the hospital.

The stolen car was recovered and the driver was arrested. Police are continuing to search for the other suspect.
