BRUCEVILLE, TX — The man who was killed after the dump truck he was driving turned over while he was traveling was identified.

DPS said 36-year-old Christopher Hammer drove around a curve in the Bruceville area Wednesday.

The truck belonged to McLennan County Precinct 1.

Multiple agencies responded to the vehicle rescue Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the 500 block of Woodlawn Road, .8 miles southwest of Davis Road. Waco fire and other agencies said they were assisting with heavy extrication operations of an overturned dump truck.

"A Western Star dump truck carrying gravel was unable to maintain its lane of travel while traveling eastbound around a curve. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned," said DPS Spokesperson Sgt. Howard.

Officials say Hammer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety wants to remind drivers not to drive beyond their limitations, saying that slowing down gives more time to react and allows for more time to see what's ahead.
